Splinter Cell Strategy Guide

Opportunity Objectives - Kokubo Sosho: There is a bonus objective during the final part of the stage. Hack the server before destroying it to achieve it.

Dvorak's Output: Speak to the old man multiple times until the conversation clears and he walks to the area with two of the five tubes. With only three tubes to watch over, Fisher can use thermal and hit the switch over any tube that vanishes from thermal view (the blowout). Do this long enough and the output from Dvorak will appear on a printer near the old man's set of tubes.

Opportunity Objectives - Displace Int'l: Uploading Grim's Trace Programs on the Displace servers. Fisher will need to hack into each PC to plant the trace.

  1. The operations room (lecture hall) near where Fisher makes his trespass. It's easier to approach it from the bottom (where the bathrooms are) and palm strike the guard in the room. The PC you're looking for is at the top of the lecture hall. Simply hack in and place the tracer while reading all the other info.
  2. The exercise room, on the same floor as #1. The room is has a guard running on an exercise bicycle and is adjacent to the one where two guards talk about Prince of Persia.
  3. The Displace gun range PC. Actually, it is the PC in small server room on the upper level. That room has a vent leading to the main (primary) server room.
The VIP reports are scattered in several PCs throughout the level. You can complete them easily by locating each PC in each room and being methodical. Pay attention to the PCs in the Operations Room, Exercise Room, Gun Range, Server Rooms, and security foyers.

Displace International Milan Nedich Objective: Laser mic and record (by zooming in with the EEV) the conversation on the third floor when a merc is assigned to the penthouse by an executive (the room is first one on your right when you get off the elevators on the third floor). Aim the EEV (binoculars) at the glass. This is the ONLY way to get credit for listening to the conversation.

Stun Punch To Fireman's Carry: While your spy (mainly Fisher) is standing and adjacent behind an enemy, hold the LEFT TRIGGER to deliver a non-lethal punch that transitions to the fireman's carry. Note, that this move will still cause mission failure if the person is to be kept awake or alive for an objective.

Prince of Persia: During Stage 5, while infiltrating Displace International, Fisher will be able to come across two guards talking about another great UbiSoft hit the Prince of Persia Warrior Within. It is the small cafe next to a laser filled hallway, past a keypad locked door. A second way to access the room is through a vent, but about half the conversation is muffled due to Fisher being stuck inside a vent.

Opportunity Objectives - Lighthouse: The bonus objectives in the Lighthouse are weapons crates Fisher can identify using electromagnetic vision.

  1. The empty jail cell past the cave with the diesel generator.
  2. The tunnel right before Morgenthal's torture chamber, with a diesel generator.
  3. Past Morgenthal's torture chamber, there are two tents outside; one of the tents has a box.
  4. Below the wooden walkway leading to the laptop referred in Grim's transmission. This small outside area has two guards talking about Lacerda's whereabouts that leads to the cancellation of the Eliminate Lacerda objective.
  5. The small room next to the cannons on the rampart.

Opportunity Objectives - Cargo Freighter: The bonus objectives in the ship are weapons crates Fisher can identify using electromagnetic vision.

  1. Inside the first cargo hold where Redding transmits about the weapons crates, but before the transmission regarding the hull leak.
  2. After the engine room (with the gas leak) and before climbing the stairs to the ledger office, there is a hall behind the stairs leading to the box.
  3. Head past the office with the transit ledgers and go past the sickbay. A box is under the stairs past the aforementioned rooms in the ship exterior.
  4. Inside the ship's galley, near the meat locker. This is the deck above the sickbay and ledger office.
  5. Under the stairs near the captain's quarters. This is inside the ship.
  6. Below the exfiltration point, on the rear deck.

Opportunity Objectives - The Bank: The bonus objectives in the bank are eight PCs Fisher needs to hack into to place fake e-mails. Shutdown the PCs you check to keep track of the ones you've investigated.

  1. The bank's front reception desk.
  2. First floor security room leading to the main vault.
  3. Bank officer's office opposite the vault security room described in #2.
  4. The large security room on the first floor.
  5. The second floor reception, in the area with the laser trapped floor and Grim's tranmission regarding them.
  6. The main security office on the second floor.
  7. The bank president's office.
  8. The main vault.
Opportunity Objectives - Penthouse: The bonus objectives in the computer geek's penthouse are six thermographic cameras that need to be tapped. Note that Fisher cannot hide from these cameras since they can see in the dark. Use nightvision to detect their cone of vision or fry their systems temporarily using the DCP.

  1. Past the half contructed area and the PC with the architectural plans is a small flat rooftop with stairs leading into the rest of the penthouse. Redding will contact Fisher about the cameras here, so the camera in question is rather obvious.
  2. In a portico (small yard on the roof) under a trellis (wood beams overhead). This is past the guard listening to some bad rock music in a guest room.
  3. In a hallway leading to a busted lift. This hallway is adjacent to the living room and camera #4.
  4. In the living room. The tapestries literally shows Fisher the path to take.
  5. Bedroom on the second floor.
  6. Inside the greenhouse on the second floor.

Unlock Elite Mode: Unlock Elite mode in co-operative play by clearing co-op story mode. Elite mode basically starts both spies off with no ammo for the SC-20K or the SC pistol, except for the ammunition you may find in the levels. Time to work that knife.

Cameras In The Dark: Cameras that do not use thermographic vision can be be fooled by shooting out all the ambient and direct light sources to darken the area. As long as the light meter is completely dark, these normal cameras cannot see your spy.

Stick Camera Reuse: Sticky cameras may be reused in almost any mode as long as they are not destroyed by gunfire or did not use their gas attack.

Tank Movement: The tanks you face in Solo Mode are rather tough but they move in preset patterns. Down the gunner sitting in the turret, then watch the tank's gun. When it aims away, that's your cue to move by or above it. The only way to destroy a tank is to throw a frag grenade into the gunner's hatch. Quicksave to make sure you don't squander your grenades.

Whacking North Korean UAVs: North Korean UAVs are tough to take down, but they can be avoided. However, if you went with a kit with a sniper attachment, you can take them out with one well placed shot (anywhere on the body).

Stopping The Missile Launch: In the final section of the DPRK missile base, Fisher has 3 minutes to stop the missile. From where the missile launches, head right and down into the door to the command center. The abort codes are on the PC to the right of that door. The codes must then be entered in one of the missile command center's PCs, which are the two rooms near the large elevator (lift) leading to the base commander's office on the level above. Assuming you took out all the enemies in that area, the three minutes are more than enough time to abort the missile.

Choke Hold To Carry: Hold the LEFT TRIGGER while grabbing an enemy to choke hold him, then immediately put his body on your spy's shoulder for a fireman's carry.

Knife To The Back To Carry: Tap the RIGHT TRIGGER to engage a knife attack on an enemy from the back, then keep tapping the trigger to bring the corpse into a fireman's carry.

Opportunity Objectives - Hokkaido: Disable all microphones in residence. Microphones can be found in EM or thermal vision mode, but they are quite scattered all over the place, so be on the look-out for them.

  1. The first room with a phone after two guards talk about ninjas. It's behind a wall scroll.
  2. Past the ofuro (hot tub) room and kitchen, Fisher overhears two guards talking about bugs. It is in the dining area (remember this is Japan, so don't look for chairs) that overlooks a small garden area with bamboo plants. The kitchen and a bathroom are nearby. The microphone is again behind a wall scroll.
  3. In the area where a Buddha statue is. Look for the microphone next to a phone in the bedroom. Note that Milan Nedich's phone conversation can be heard throughout this area (past the large garden), in case you're completely lost.
  4. After assassinating Nedich, Fisher drops into the servants' quarters. Look around the room with the big screen television talking about the North American tree slug and cut out the microphone behind the wall scroll.
  5. In the servants' quarters, look into one of their rooms (same general area as #4). Behind a wall scroll.
  6. Locate the art studio (the room with an easel) past the servants' garden. The microphone is behind a wall scroll.

Hokkaido Milan Nedich Objecitve: Inspect the two SUVs' license plates either remotely (through Fisher's binoculars) or by interacting with them up close. Redding sheds some light on the real Milan Nedich.

Opportunity Objectives - Battery: Several PCs need hacking to recover repair logs. Fisher can also rig warheads in east and west missile bays to explode as a contingency.

  1. Head past the bunker entrance and look for a small clerical area with a shuttered corner office. The DPRK officer inside has his butt occupying the PC Fisher needs. You know what to do.
  2. The PC inside the control room above the missile loading bay. This room is past barracks and storeroom; country music may be heard in that room.
  3. The PC in the missile tracking room where the base commander executes a technician for gross negligence. It's one of the PCs in the upper level.
  4. The PC inside west missile bay control room, right next to the one where the missile abort codes are entered.

There are two warheads in the east and west missile bays that can have their wires bypassed. Rig them both and complete this objective.

Opportunity Objectives - Seoul: Propaganda loudspeakers need to be cut before they drive Fisher more nuts than he is already.
  1. On the right side of street when facing away from the first truck. This is presumably after the special forces interrogation (chances are you'll fail if anything else is attempted). Check EM vision to see where any plausible wires and set-ups are. Two spherical lanterns are overhead.
  2. To the passenger side of the first mobile HQ, near some umbrella covered tables.
  3. On top of the ladder, just outside of the NDT building. It is next to an air vent.
Five portable radars need to be shutdown via its controlling PC. Note that destroying them will make this objective impossible to complete.
  1. Right near the beginning where Fisher encounters a DPRK UAV for the first time.
  2. On second rooftop, on top of the office's roof. This is after a hand over hand pipe exercise. Some SC-20K ammo is near this radar set.
  3. Across from the broken bathrooms, on a small rooftop (it's a restaurant) and in plain sight of a second DPRK UAV.
  4. On the building rooftop after first IFV (infantry fighting vehicle). The uneducated may refer to this as a tank or APC.
  5. On a rooftop next to the crashed EWAC. A pipe near the two EWAC pilots may be used to reach it.
Two mobile HQs need to be tapped. One is in the first part of Seoul (before the communications building) and the second mobile HQ is after the first IFV. These are not hard to find. Look for large U-Haul vans with a load of electronics inside. Those are mobile HQs.

Inside the restaurant (the building with several open/destroyed floors), descend to the bottom and locate a broken UAV on a kitchen table. The PC has the files Fisher wants. Note this is right before the "Do Not Kill ROK forces" objective.

The first of two IFVs is right after the restaurant. Kill the surrounding enemies, disable your ROK "friends", and douse the street lights to sneak past the IFV. Get on top of the roof near the radar station and toss a frag grenade into the gunner's hatch. The second IFV is after the second mobile HQ. Get on top of the scaffolding next to it and blow the hatch using frags.

When Fisher gets to the EWAC, rescue both pilots and take them into a side alley to save them before painting the EWAC for destruction.

Opportunity Objectives - Bath House: Tapping all bathouse phone boxes is a piece of cake in this mission; the hard part is surviving the final section to defuse the bombs.

  1. The starting alley where repair guy is working. It's in the corner of the street.
  2. The phone box in drained swimming pool.
  3. The reception desk past steam baths. Fisher passes by a gun turret before this area.

The ISDF orders are on PCs in the barred surveillance room. Get in through the vent in the bathouse owner's office.

Metal Gear Solid: Enemies in the Kokubo Sosho's (stage 10) basement have LTL (Less Than Lethal) stunguns. Interrogate any of the guards in the basement about their zapping toy for some amusing comments regarding ammunition. Take that Snake! http://cheats.teamxbox.com

Splinter Cell Gameplay

It's not often that a series not only improves visually, but adds completely new elements with each installment. The original Splinter Cell introduced a new stealth action hero in the form of Sam Fisher. The game looked and played great, but what really stood out was the potential for a successful franchise. Pandora Tomorrow broke new ground by creating an online multiplayer stealth-action game. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory continues the trend with improved controls, graphics, a highly polished adversarial mode, and new on- and offline co-op missions. It is amazing to see the range of gameplay elements that have been squeezed into this title. It is even more impressive to experience how well each of them works.

Chaos Theory contains three unique gameplay types, but this doesn't mean the solo mode has been overlooked. The story follows a typical Tom Clancy formula of throwing as much globe trotting and technical jargon in a person's face as possible. While Sam Fisher is a step above the typical meathead video game protagonist, he seems to have a very small emotional investment in his job. There are no Metal Gear love triangles or family disputes; Sam is simply a soldier who is doing his job.

There are 10 levels of single player international espionage and each one contains multiple paths to complete the primary and secondary objectives. The levels are larger and better designed than the other games in the series. While many of the scenarios in Pandora Tomorrow were easy on the eyes, they felt too short and lacked depth. In Chaos Theory , the levels are not only visually impressive but they are expertly designed to offer a ton of replay value.

The combat in the first two Splinter Cell games contained a slight contradiction. While they emphasized stealth, Sam Fisher was in possession of the equipment and the abilities to kick some serious ass. Pandora introduced incremental alert stages in which enemies would outfit themselves with better equipment as the alarm level increased. This addition, along with some very touchy AI, seemed to force a more restrained type of gameplay. Thankfully, this feature has been removed from the game and instead Ubisoft lets gamers decide their style of play.

At the beginning of each level offers an equipment selection screen giving players the choice of a stealth or assault package. There is also a third option called "Redding's Recommendation" that usually contains a mixture of items best suited to the level. This doesn't solve the problem of having an overly powerful protagonist, but it does address the issue. Whether players choose stealth or action, Chaos Theory offers an assortment of new moves and improvements.

First off, Sam now carries a knife that can be used for quick, lethal takedowns. Sam either jabs an enemy in the gut or takes him down with a quick throat slash. He also brandishes the blade when interrogating an enemy, which is a bit more threatening than a headlock. The lethal knife attacks are executed so quickly that it can be very enticing to take care of every threat in this fashion. The knife can also be used to cut through plastic sheeting and paper walls. This creates even more pathways from which to approach your objectives.

There are also a number of environment-based kills that allow players to take out the bad guys with style. When a spy is hanging over an enemy he now has the option to grab him from above and either knock him out or snap his neck. When approaching a door there are now four options: open door, open door stealth, bash door, and optic cable. The stealth opening allows players to manually push the door ajar, so as not to disturb whomever is on the other side of it. "Bashing" causes Sam to enter the room with a quick kick, which knocks out any unlucky soul on the receiving end of the swinging door. http://xbox.ign.com

Splinter Cell Graphics

When playing Chaos Theory you will think you're playing a PC game on a hi-end rig. The graphics are amazing. Truthfully, I can't think of one flaw this game has when it comes to graphics. The smooth textures in this game are mind boggling to gaze at. Sam has never looked so good. Truthfully, this game doesn't belong on the Xbox. It looks like an Xbox 2 launch title. You will want to pinch yourself to see if this game is for real when you see the rain effects. What matters the most when it comes to graphics though is the animations. The animations in Chaos Theory are some of the best I have ever seen in a video game. Bar none. Of course, what would a stealth game be without amazing lighting effects? Nothing; and Chaos Theory wholeheartedly delivers. The shadows are your best friend. You must use them to your advantage or you will be killed. It's never been so easy to accomplish this because you know exactly where a shadow is and where it ends due to the amazing graphics engine.

Everything from the objects on the ground to the knife in your hand is greatly detailed. I have never seen a broken bottle of bourbon look so good. Everything just looks top notch. By far, the best looking game to be found on the Xbox . Many thought this moment would never come. What moment? The moment of the Xbox being completely maxed out. I don't know how they did it, but I'm sure as hell glad they did.

As already mentioned, Chaos Theory is a lot more violent than previous installments of the series. When you stick a bottle into someone's stomach, blood will squirt. Sick, but once again, looks astonishing. When using your night vision goggles, everything will look green and be a little bit fuzzy. The fuzziness definitely adds to the realism of the game. Here's a tip. Put your night vision goggles on while it's raining. Be prepared to be amazed by the textures. In short, Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory is the best looking game the Xbox will ever see.

Splinter Cell Audio

Oh boy. Where do I start? The music in Chaos Theory is beyond great. Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory is one of the few games that wouldn't be a complete waste of money to buy the soundtrack. Amon Tobin is a genius when it comes to this kind of stuff. Every level has the appropriate music. This game has movie quality production values. Seriously, go get the soundtrack. As a famous spy used to say, ''It's smashing baby!''.

The sound effects have to be good in a game such as Chaos Theory. Once again, Chaos Theory delivers. Wait a minute, what was that? Was that another one of those darn Mercenaries? *takes out knife* The sound effects are the best you will ever hear in a video game. I can't think of a thing wrong with the audio in Chaos Theory. Everything is absolutely stunning; from the way a silent gun shot sounds to a footstep, to a drop a rain hitting the ground, it's all just done so well.

Michael Ironside does a magnificent job playing the role of Sam Fisher. If you've played Splinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow you'll know that Sam makes jokes that aren't exactly ''funny''. This is why it's so good. His non sense of humor is hilarious. This game is in no way funny though. In Chaos Theory, they are dealing with serious issues. A joke or two can never hurt though. The cut-scenes are extremely well done, and as I said before, this game has movie quality production values. Ubisoft really went all out when they hired their voice acting crew. Overall, the audio in Chaos Theory is unsurpassed.

Splinter Cell Gameplay Controls

In stealth games control functionality can either mean life or death. Luckily, Chaos Theory controls better than any other stealth game I have played, and trust me, I've played them all. Chaos Theory really takes advantage of the Xbox control pad, using almost every button. You will need to use the analog sticks and the d-pad if you wish to survive. The d-pad basically turns your different kind of goggles on and off. Obviously, the left analog stick will move your character while the right stick is used to maneuver the camera.

Sneaking up on someone to kill him is easy in Chaos Theory. All you have to do is get right behind your opponent and press A. This is easy because a little menu comes up and asks you what to do: ''Return to game" or "grab character.'' After you grab someone you can either knock him out by pulling the L trigger, or Sam will perform a lethal attack if you pull the R trigger. The controls are as responsive as ever. Everything just feels right.

Splinter Cell Replay

With a single player experience that could easily consume 20 hours of your time, online multiplayer, on and offline Co-op, Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory can last you a while. The single player experience is so good that you will want to play through it at least twice. Maybe one time through doing things extremely stealthy, and another time trying to go as fast as possible. Not to mention if you want to play it through using different difficulty settings.
